Hanako Gejo was born in 1980 in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan.
In 2006 M.F.A., Urushi Craft Dept., Kyoto City University of Arts.
The artist Hanako Gejo makes most of her works in the kanshitsu technique, that is dry lacquer.
She creates her artworks using as model different materials, such as cloth, clay and plaster. Using metal leaves, powder and coloured urushi she conveys the elegance of various forms of lacquer.
In 2011 she won the Encouragement Award at the 50th Japan Craft Exhibition, Marunouchi Building Hall, Tokyo. After a brief stop in her activity, she has resumed the artistic activity with several group and solo shows.
