Hanako GEJO

Hanako Gejo, wife of the award-winning artist Takeshi Igawa, was born in 1980 in the Japanese Prefecture of Yamanashi and received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Kyoto City University of Arts in 2006.
The artist creates most of his works with the kanshitsu or dry lacquer technique, which fascinate with their colour tones and brilliance. On a base of fabric, plaster or paper Gejo works the surfaces with urushi lacquer, embellishing them with metal leaves and powders.
In 2011 the artist won the Encouragement Award at the 50th Japan Craft Exhibition, Marunouchi Building Hall, Tokyo.
