OSAKA International Art 2025
ESH Gallery for Osaka International Art 2025, presents a selection of small-format works by Claudio Destito and paper sculptures by Alice Zanin.
The aim is to create a historical and cultural bridge between Italy and Japan. References to the East and especially the use of the techniques of the fresco and papier-collé (known as ‘poor lacquer’ in Italian), pay tribute to the magnificence of Renaissance tradition and unique 18th century Venetian decorative art.
Claudio Destito
Destito’s works represent the materialisation of common and popular idioms, which serve as titles for the pieces themselves, such as ‘War and Peace’ and ‘Renaissance’ present at the booth. The captivating, ironic approach linked to the form and content of the works allows the artist to establish a dialogue between the work and its viewer. Destito uses irony as a means of reflection, showing us the surrounding reality from a different point of view and allowing us to focus on aspects that are usually not immediately apparent. He engages us equally effectively, whether the irony is playful or melancholic.
Alice Zanin
Alice Zanin, an artist from Piacenza born in 1987, is a cultured and refined animalier littéraire. She is unique in her ability to bring a mystical and floating bestiary to life with papier-collé. This technique enables the creation of sculptures that are so free from the idea of rigid solidity that they remain suspended in the air. Her work is oriented towards creating forms that allude to the animal world, striking a skilful balance between aesthetic exploration and cultured quotation.
ESH Gallery
Established in 2014, ESH Gallery focuses its artistic research on Italian and international authors who work on the indistinguishable border between sculpture, contemporary craft and one-off designs through materials such as ceramic, glass, metal and other unconventional organic materials like paper or Japanese lacquer. The concepts of oriental aesthetics and the dialogue between East and West, are the focus of the gallery’s exhibition program in Italy and abroad.
